A dignified formal ceremony was taken place to mark the assuming of the office of new Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc on 04 July 2019.
As the first segment of the ceremony, the newly appointed Commander of Security Force (Wanni) was accorded with a Guard Turnout at the entrance to the premises of Headquarters Security Force (Wanni). Later on, he paid the tribute to fallen war heroes by laying a floral wreath to the monument.
The day’s significance reached its peak with a guard of honour that were bestowed to the succeeding commander by troops of 8 Field Engineers Regiment. There, Major General Jagath Gunawardena was received by the General Officer Commanding of 56 Division Major General H P Seneviratne VSV USP ndu and Brigadier General Staff of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) Brigadier H P Ranasinghe RWP RSP ndc close to the parade ground at the camp premises.
After the formal military honours, Major General Jagath Gunawardena auspiciously took over duties as the 18th Commander of Security Force (Wanni) amid the religious observances. Subsequently he planted a mango sapling in front of the Main Office Complex to mark the assuming of office and then joined an all rank tea party organised at the Other Ranks’ Mess.
The first address by the newly appointed Commander Security Force (Wanni) taken place at the Headquarters Auditorium with the presence over 800 troops representing all under command formations to Security Force (Wanni).
General Officers Commanding of 21 Division Major General H P N K Jayapathirane RSP, General Officer Commanding of 54 Division Major General W G H A S Bandara RWP RSP ndu, General Officer Commanding of 56 Division Major General H P Seneviratne VSV USP ndu, General Officer Commanding of 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Tilakaratne RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding of 62 Division Brigadier J M U D Jayasinghe, Brigadier General Staff of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) Brigadier H P Ranasinghe RWP RSP ndc, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers of under command battalions, Senior Officers, Officers and number of Other Ranks were present to pay their respect to the newly appointed Commander Security Force (Wanni).
