MAJ GEN M T I MAHALEKAM WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc, ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE NEW GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING OF THE 54 INFANTRY DIVISION.

Major General Thushara Mahalekam assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division during a brief ceremony at the 54 Infantry Division Headquarters premises Mannar, on Saturday, 25th May 2024.

In accordance with military traditions, Major General Thushara Mahalekam upon arrival at the premises reviewed the Guard Turnout. As the first segment of the day’s proceedings, the incoming General Officer Commanding paid tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the monument in Division Headquarter. Afterwards, he was invited to take the salute of the Guard of Honour, presented by troops of the 8th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

Major General Thushara Mahalekam arrived at his new office to signify the acceptance of his new responsibilities as General Officer Commanding, amidst the religious blessings. (Buddhist, Catholic, Islam, Hindu)

The General Officer Commanding posed for a group photograph with the Senior Officers and Officers serving under the Division Headquarters and adding to the memories of the day he planted a Mango sapling in front of the 54 Infantry Division Office Complex.

In setting out his scope of work and duties, the General Officer Commanding formally addressed Officers and Other Ranks and urged them to work with commitment and maintain high standards of discipline before sharing a cup of tea with all ranks.

Major General Thushara Mahalekam participated in a comprehensive briefing conducted by the Col GS and SIO of the 54 infantry division, further he joined with Officers in a lunch at the Officers’ mess.

The commanders of the 541, 542 and 543 Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the day’s inauguration of the office. Major General Thushara Mahalekam served as the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy at Diyathalawa prior to this appointment.
