INTER DIVISION VOLLEY BALL TOURNAMENT - 2019

The finals of Inter Division Volley Ball Tournament - 2019 took place on 05 September 2019 at the Sports Complex in Headquarters 21 Division. The Volley Ball Meet is one of the sport events organized every year in Security Force (Wanni) area where the Officers and Other Ranks of all under command formations get the opportunity to exhibit their talents.

Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) under the direct supervision of Commander Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc is constantly prioritising to held all such sport events to make a path for under command troops to achieve national level sports goals.

Volley Ball, as the National Sport in Sri Lanka is being played in different formations in Army under various levels which emulated the highest professional sportsmanship to improve the standards with the aim of emerging as National and International level Volley Ball players within the organization.

In that context, formations under command to Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), 21, 54, 56, 61, 62 Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) competed for the championship. During a nail biting battle held between 21 and 56 Divisions, the year’s overall championship was awarded to 21 Division while 56 Division emerged as runners up. Representing the team of 21 Division, Private Bandara BMD was awarded as the best shooter while Trooper Ilangarathne IPKS was awarded as the Man of the Series of Inter Division Volley Ball Tournament – 2019.

The day’s event was much amused for all onlookers by an exhibition match held between Volley Ball teams of Gajaba Regiment and Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. At the end of this exiting battle, the team of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment was recorded as winners.

Troops of Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) organized the year’s Meet in a grandiose manner with elaborate arrangements under the supervision of Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) Major General K M R P Karunathilake psc.

The Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) Major General Rasika Karunathilake psc represented the certificate awarding and closing ceremony as the chief guest on behalf of the Commander Security Force (Wanni).

The General Officer Commanding of 21 Division Major General Kumar Jayapathirane RSP, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers and large number of Other Ranks made their presence in the final ceremony of Inter Division Volley Ball Tournament - 2019.
