The finals of Security Force Wanni Inter Division Swimming competition for year 2018 were held on 17 March 2018 at the Swimming Pool in Anuradhapura. According to the annual sports calendar of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), the Inter Division Swimming Competition – 2018 was organized and conducted in a professional manner and international standards by GOC 21 Division, Major General W R P De Silva USP ndu IG, and his team.
The finals were concluded with a touch of ceremonial pomp and was attended by The Commander of Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP ndu as the chief guest and gave away trophies to winners.
As formations under command to Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), 21, 54, 56, 61, 62 Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) along with 2(V) and 4(V) Women’s Corp competed for the championship in various events during 16 and 17 March 2018.
The attraction of the day was the competition between 8 major schools representing Anuradhapura Education Zone for the champion school for swimmers in year 2018. The team from Walisinghe Harishchandra Collage - Anuradhapura won the boys championship while girl’s category was won by A/Swarnapali Girls’ Collage.
The Swimming Meet emulated highest professionalism establishing many records in both men’s and women’s events by exhibiting talents of swimmers within the organization. The Men’s overall championship was carried away by 21 Division while Forward Maintenance Area (N/C) emerged as runners up. In women’s event, 4 (V) Women’s Corp became the champion battalion while 2 (V) Women’s Corp became runners up.
Lance Corporal Chathuranga U K from FMA (N/C) and Trooper Jayasinghe R M from 21 Division became joint winners as the best swimmers under Men’s category of Inter Division Swimming Meet - 2018 while Private Gunathilaka S M became the best swimmer under Women’s category of the tournament.
The General Officers Commanding 21, 54 and 61 Divisions, the Commander of FMA (N/C), Senior Officers from under command formations to 21 Division, Principals and teachers together with students of nearby schools, and large number of Other Ranks made their presence in the finale ceremony of Inter Division Swimming Meet – 2018.
