Inter Division athletics meet of Security Force (Wanni) was held ceremonially during 21st and 22nd July 2014 at Mahaweli Playground, Sampathnuwara. The main intention of the event was to enhance the sports skills of the soldiers of under commanding divisions and open an avenue for them to take part in Army competition.
The Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) being the pioneer of conducting an inter Divisional Army Athletic meet, with the guidance of the Commander Security Force (Wanni), competent authority of resettlement of displaced personnel in Northern Province and Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Major General M H S B Perera RWP RSP USP ndu psc the inaugural inter Divisional Athletic meet held last year (2013) which was organized by the 21 Division at Mihinthalaya public playground. While continuing the concept, the inter Divisional Athletic meet for 2014 was held and it was organized with the guidance by the General Officer Commanding of 62 Division, Brigadier K G D Perera RWP RSP USP IG. The Commander Security Force (Wanni) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while all the General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers, other rankers, state officers, school children and large number of civilians participated for the event.
62 Division won the overall championship while 21 Division was securing the second place and 54 Division was able to win the third place. The Best Female Athlete of the meet was the women soldier Private Ilangathilaka IYK (4th Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps) and Corporal Nawarathna NMLU (11th The Gemunu Watch) won the title of Best Male Athlete.
