In view of contributing to the National Grid (Renewable Energy), Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni) launched a project on installation of solar power system. As per the direction of the Commander Security Forces (Wanni) Major General W P AD W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, installed a new solar power generation plant at the camp premises was declared open on 03 January 2024.
Further, in line with the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka’s vision of using renewable energy as a solution to the energy crisis in the country, this headquarters has been the first establishment to initiate such a major project from Sri Lanka army.
The solar power generating project has a capacity of 125 kilowatts (15000 kWh) which will be expanded to 250 kW in the 2nd stage in near future and will release the entire power generated to the national grid. The income will be used for the welfare of the soldiers.
A special ceremony was held with the presence of the Commander Security forces (Wanni), Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier Admin and Quartering, Brigadier Projects, Senior Officers, Regimental Sergeant Major and all ranks of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) marked the occasion with representatives from Hayleys Solar Group (Pvt) Ltd and Ceylon Electricity Board.
