HUMANITARIAN AID INITIATIVE BY 56 INFANTRY DIVISION AMIDST ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS

On 29 November 2024, under the direction of Major General J P C Peiris RWP RSP ndc, the Commander Security Force (W), a humanitarian aid program was launched to support families displaced due to advers weather condition in the Vavuniya District. The initiative, backed by the Manusat Derana Institute and philanthropist Mr. Mahesh Jayawardena, focused on distributing essential dry food items to 117 individuals temporarily sheltered at Kandasaminagar Vipulananda Vidyalaya and Kallaru Sri Sitthi Vinayagar Vidyalaya. This timely intervention aimed to alleviate the immediate hardships faced by displaced families residing in the 208 B area of the Vavuniya Regional Secretariat Division, reflecting a proactive and compassionate approach to disaster relief.

The operation was executed under the supervision of Major General M P N A Muthumala USP psc, Commander 56 Infantry Division, with vital support from Colonel Mangala Amarasinghe RSP psc, Commander 562 Infantry Brigade and Major Ruwan Vithanage RSP, Commanding Officer of the 17thBattalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment.
