HELPING HAND FOR FARMERS OF VIKUMPURA - MANNAR BY ARMY
Vikumpura is a peaceful village where Sinhalese and Muslims live in harmony, in Mannar region. Occupation of 99% of the villagers is farming specially paddy cultivation and farm animals. On 11th September 2014, 542 Brigade had organized an special ceremony in this village for distribution agricultural instruments freely in order to support their livelihood. 2 hand tractors were donated for the farmers’ society of Vikumpura village and, mamoties and some other agricultural instruments were distributed for the farmers. 10 pairs of goats was distributed among ten families in the same occasion. Fund for all these donated items and animals were supplied by the Army itself for the welfare of these villagers.
The Commander Security Force (Wanni), Competent Authority of Resettlement of Displaced Personnel in Northern Province Major General M H S B Perera RWP RSP USP ndu psc participated the event as the chief guest and General Officer Commanding of 54 Division Major General K M U Wijerathna RSP ndu, Brigadier General Staff of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) Brigadier H P Senevirathne USP, the Commander 542 Brigade Brigadier M M S Perera psc, Brigade Commander 541 Colonel R P D U Rajapakshe RWP RSP, Senior Officers, Officers and large number of villagers from Vikumpura had participated the occasion.
