HE INSTRUCTED THE COMMANDER SF (W) TO STOP ILLEGAL FELLING OF TIMBER IN WANNI
The Commander Security Force (Wanni) had been instructed by the His Excellencies president Mahinda Rajapakshe to get legal action against illegal felling of timber, and unauthorized sand trade without any hesitation on the convict in the Wanni region.
A special conference was called for discussing this matter on 16 September 2014 at SF HQ (W) with precedence of the Commander Security Force (Wanni), Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, and Competent Authority for Displaced Personnel in the Northern Province Major General M H S B Perera RWP RSP USP ndu psc. Including General officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders under Wanni area of responsible, Senior Police Officers, police Inspectors, assistant conservators of forest, and conservators of forest Department and deputy government agents, nearly 50 officers had taken part in this conference.
The Commander stated to the gathering that he was instructed by the president to act strictly against the unauthorized timber and sand dealers and to take legal action against them. Further he indicated the importance of protecting the forest as a natural resource and the disastrous feedback of destruction of forests. In the commander’s further elucidation he emphasized that it was our main duty more than official, to work countering on this forest destruction with enthusiasm.
‘There’s no alternative other than protecting all the forest in Sri Lanka and take all the necessary actions considering this as a national requirement. The Army will be providing all the facilities, supports and guidance ceaselessly on this regarding’, the Commander stated.
