A humanitarian initiative to grant sanctuary to a cow destined for slaughter was successfully carried out under the direction of the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.
This initiative was undertaken at the request of Mr. Senaka Senavirathna, a resident of the United States of America, who expressed his wish to provide sanctuary to a cow facing slaughter.
In response, the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army issued instructions to select a suitable cow and assign a responsible soldier from the Army to care for the animal in order to ensure the success of this compassionate effort. ccordingly, under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces (Wanni), and in line with the instructions of the General Officer Commanding of the 21 Infantry Division and the Commander of the 212 Infantry Brigade, this meritorious act was carried out.
A cow was selected from the Anuradhapura area, and with the financial contribution of Rs. 175,000 provided by Mr. Senaka Senavirathna, it was purchased and officially handed over on 22nd July 2025 to S/T100696T Pte Sandakalum C.A.D., a soldier stationed in the Thambuttegama area under the 212 Infantry Brigade, for its care and maintenance.
This act of compassion stands as a true reflection of an Army with a heart.
