FRIENDLY FOOTBALL MATCH BETWEEN ARMY AND PALAMPIDDI VILLAGES CONSISTING WITH EX- LTTE CADRES TO MARK THE NEW YEAR
A friendly football match between the teams of 26th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry and villages of Palampiddi, Keerisuddan combined with ex LTTE cadres was held on 20th April 2014 at Palampiddi public playground to mark the Sinhales Tamil New Year.
The event marked the reconciliation among two communities and it was highly praised by the villagers. A large number of spectators including clergy, men and women were gathering at the playground. The prizes were awarded for each player and a trophy for the winning team. Spectators were treated with refreshments too.
The happy crowd cheered and praised the army for the effort taking in the process of enhancing the harmony and reconciliation of the country. More inter villages matches are planned to be held (Periyamadhu, Palampiddi, Kayanagar, Keerisuddan and Thachchnamaradamadhu) combined with the military personnel soon in the future.
The commander 613 Brigade -Brig P A D Kahapola RSP, Commanding Officer 26th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry - Lt Col G A D K G Ganegoda RSP psc SLLI including officers and soldiers of the battalion organized the event.
