THE FIRST OFFICIAL VISIT OF COMMANDER OF THE ARMY

The newly appointed Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndcpsc made his first official visit to Headquarters Security Force (Wanni) on 29September 2019.

Commander of the Armywas warmly welcomed by the Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndcpsc.

Visiting Commander of the Army was bestowed with a guard turnout at the entrance to the Headquarters premises of Security Force (Wanni) and later he paid his tribute to fallen war heroes by laying a floral wreath to the War Heroes’ Monument. Then the Commander of the Army was respected with a guard of honour at the parade ground of Headquarters Security Force (Wanni) and it was accorded by troops of 9 Gajaba Regiment.

Thereafter, the Commander of the Army made his first official address to troops under Security Force (Wanni) at the Auditorium of Headquarters Security Force (Wanni). Addressing over 1000 of troops representing all under command formations to Security Force (Wanni), the Commander of the Army reminded the utmost scarifies made by all men in Sri Lanka Army during three decades of war. He further highlighted that Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) played a significant role during that period in same this Headquarter is engaging presently with many community building programmes in Wanni region. Later, the visiting commander gathered in planting of a Mango Sapling at the New Office Complex of SFHQ (Wanni).

Participation in a traditional tea table with All Ranks and addressing them were other major highlights in the day’s itinerary at the venue.There, the Commander Security Force (Wanni) presented a memento to Commander of the Army in order to mark his visit to Security Force Headquarters (Wanni).

Next segment of the day’s event was the address by the Commander of the Army for Officers arrived by representing all under command formations to Security Force (Wanni).

This series of events were much amused by a Martial Art Display exhibited by newly trained troops of Martial Art Training programme ‘KiyoshiryuBudo’ conducted at Headquarters Security Force (Wanni) for period of 20 working days. Over 24 trainee Officers and 950 Other Ranks participated in this eye catching and exciting Martial Art Display.

General Officers Commanding of 21, 56, 54, 61 and 62 Divisions, al Brigade Commanders, principal staff officers of the Wanni Headquarters, Commanding Officers, many senior officers and other ranks participated in this occasion.
