FIRST FORMAL VISIT AND OPENING OF \'\'SPIRIT\'\' AT THE SF HQ WANNI BY STATE MINISTER OF DEFENCE
State Minister of Defence, Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene undertaking his first official visit to the SF HQ (Wanni) after assuming the post at the Ministerial office at the Ministry of Defence, arrived at the Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) (SF HQ (W)) Friday (7) afternoon, together with Defence Chiefs.\r\n\r\nMajor General M H S B Perera RWP RSP USP ndu psc, Commander, SF (W) after a warm welcome at the Vauniya airport conducted him and his retinue to the SF (W) premises where a Guard Turnout in the form of drive-past greeted him in accordance with military traditions. Chief of Defence Staff General J Jayasuriya RWP VSV USP ndu psc, Commander of The Army Lieutenant General RMD Ratnayake WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral J Perera RWP VSV USP ndc psc Msc (DS) Msc (DSS) and the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal K A Gunatilleke RWP RSP VSV USP Msc (DS) Msc (DSS) ndc psc accompanied the Minister.\r\n\r\n\r\nAfter taking the salute of Guard of Honour presented by 21 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment the Honourable Minister took steps to address tri-service troops under the SF (W) Area of Responsibility and explained them on the sensitive aspect of the National Security concerns as well as the importance of maintaining the status quo.\r\n\r\nAfter a while, Major General M H S B Perera RWP RSP USP ndu psc, Commander, SF (W), invited the minister for the opening of SF HQ (W) new station officers\' mess named \'\'SPIRIT\'\' and awarded him a symbolic memento as a token of memory of his visit to the SF HQ (W). He was also invited to leave his signature in the visitors\' book at the new station officers\' mess of SF HQ (W).
