59 Infantry Division in collaboration with the the Sri Lanka Nippon Educational and Cultural Center (SLNEC), organized a heartfelt event dedicated to supporting students in their educational journey by awarding scholarships and distributing essential school supplies to underprivileged students in the Mulative District. The event was held at the 6th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard Headquarters on 12th January 2025.
Major General J P C Peiris RWP RSP ndc Commander Security Force (Wanni) grace the occasion as the chief Guest. The event was held under the esteemed patronage of the Secretary General of SLNEC, Ven Meegahathenne Chandrasiri Thero and with the guidance of Major General D R N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP, General Officer Commanding 59 Infantry Division. The programme was closely supervised by Colonel B A T S K Basnayaka RSP USP IG Over Looking Commander 593 Infantry Brigade and Major KN C De Silva SLNG, Commanding Officer of the 6th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard, who played key roles in coordinating and assisting the event.
During the occasion, 40 students from Mulative, recognized for their exceptional academic performance, were awarded monthly scholarships. Additionally, they received stationery items sufficient for the upcoming school year, along with vouchers for school shoes. This initiative aimed to support these students in pursuing their educational aspirations and alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by their families.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Buddhist monks, Senior Officers, officers and parents of the students, creating a meaningful and supportive atmosphere. This collaborative effort by SLNEC and the Sri Lanka Army demonstrates their commitment to fostering education, goodwill, and harmony in the Multive District.
