A donation of Protective Equipment and Accessories to the General Hospital Vavuniya was conducted on 3rd January 2022 by 56 Infantry Division which has been personally donated to the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army by Mr. Senaka Senevirathne and Sri Lankans who are living in United State of America (USA). The program has involved the distribution of marks, gloves, sanitary items, Personal Protective Equipment sets (PPE) and other Protective Equipment and accessories with the aim of supporting the health sector in infection prevention and control of COVID-19 virus from patients to the health care workers.
The donation programme was conducted with the direction of the Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil and with the supervision of the General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division Major General L D S S Liyanage RSP USP psc Hdmc. Further, the General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division was graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Director, General Hospital Vavuniya Doctor K Rahulan, Colonel General Staff 56 Infantry Division - Col K P P Karunanayaka, Commanding Officer of 21 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment - Lt Col N P S K Nilmalgoda RWP USP, Consultant Anesthetist - Doctor Yogananth, Consultant Transfusion Physicians - Doctor Indika Karunasena, several army officials, other medical staff and representatives from General Hospital Vavuniya presented at the occasion adhering to the Covid - 19 health protocols
