CONSECRATION OF HOLY MADU CHURCH WITH COMMANDER OF THE ARMY

A long standing expectation of Commander Security Force Wanni, Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, was to offera new statue of Holy Lady Madu to the most sacred Shrine of Our Lady of Rosary in Madu, commonly known as the Madu church, from the good hands of Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake RWP RSP VSV USP USACGSC.

It became a reality on 11 April 2019 when the Commander of the Army participated at the Holy ceremony. The initiative was mainly to foster amity and harmony among communities and to offer blessings to the Sri Lanka Army.

The Holy ceremony commenced with the carriage of the new statue of Our Lady of Madu in a decorated vehicle taken in a long line of vehicle procession. Prior to enshrinement of the sacred statue inside the pedestal by Commander of the Army and Commander Security Force, a special mass was conducted inside the main Shrine by most Rev Dr. Emmanuel Fernando, Bishop of Mannar together with Rev Fr. Peppi Sossai, Administrator of Sacred Madu Church to a pact devotee audience of civilians and Army personnel.

Preparation of the new statue and the pedestal and organizing the ceremonywas completed to perfection by General Officer Commanding of 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP with advice from Commander Security Force Wanni.

Security Force Wanni also arranged planting of 45,000 saplings to coincide with the event as well as part of ‘Ranaviru Haritha Arana, conceptualized by Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.
