THE COMMEMORATION OF A FALLEN WAR HERO: LATE LT GEN DENZIL KOBBEKADUWA

The 27th death anniversary of one of the legendry military leaders in Sri Lankan Military History, late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa RWP RSP VSV USP rcds psc was commemorated in front of the Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa statue on 08 August 2019 at Anuradhapura.

This gallant war hero along with a team of renowned military commanders, were victimised to a land mine blast at Arali Point on 08 August 1992 while they were travelling to plan an operation. The day’s proceedings were comprised of religious observances, laying floral wreaths to the monument and humber military traditional event.

Mrs Laly kobbekaduwa, the beloved wife of Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa along with the present Colonel commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and Commander Sri Lanka Volunteer Force Major General S D T Liyanage WWV RWP VSV USP ndc psc made their presence as chief guests.

The commemoration ceremony was organized by Sri Lanka Armoured Corps with the supervision present Colonel commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and Commander Sri Lanka Volunteer Force Major General S D T Liyanage WWV RWP VSV USP ndc psc and with the assistances Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc come to the end after an Alms giving for venerable monks at Lankarama temple offered by Mrs Laly Kobbekaduwa and family members.

The Commander Forward Maintenance Area (N/C) Major General K M R P Karunathilake psc along with the General Officer Commanding of 21 Division Major General H P N K Jayapathirana RSP, senior military Officers representing Headquarters Security Force (Wanni) and 21 Division, the Commander Armoured Brigade, and large number of Officers and Other Ranks were present at the occasion.
