BRIGADIER H P N K JAYAPATHIRANA RSP ASSUMES OFFICE AS THE 26TH GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING OF 21 DIVISION

Brigadier H P N K Jayapathirana RSP, assumed office as the 26th General Officer Commanding of 21 Division during ceremony held with military formalities at the Headquarters premises of 21 Division in Anuradhapura.

He succeeds Maj Gen W R P De Silva USP ndu IG who has been appointed as the new Commander of Security Force (Central).

Brigadier H P N K Jayapathirana RSP has held numerous important appointments during his illustrious military career in Command, Instructor and Staff appointments at all levels. Within the Battalion he has held all appointments as a young Officer.

In Command status he has held the appointments of Platoon Commander, Company Commander, Battalion Second in Command, Battalion Commander and Brigade Commander. Apart from that he has served in Grade III, II, I and Principal Staff Officer Appointments as a Staff Officer in various establishments.

VThe newly appointed General Officer Commanding of 21 Division has also been the Commandant of Marksmanship Sniper Training School in Diyatalawa as well as the Institute of Peace Support Operations Training in Kukulegaga.

On arrival at the Division Headquarters, Brigadier H P N K Jayapathirana RSP was honoured with a Guard Turnout accorded by troops of 7 Squadron of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps. After lighting the traditional oil lamp amidst religeous observances, he placed his signature in a formal document symbolizing the acceptance of the new office. Thereafter, he planted an Ironwood (Naa) sapling to mark the day’s event. Later on, he attended in an all rank tea party at the premises of 21 Division Headquarters.

The Commander 212 Brigade, Commanding Officers of under command battalions, Senior Officers, Officers of Headquarters 21 Division and large number of Other Ranks were present at the occasion.
