Brigadier D A P N Dematanpitiya ndu psc assumed duties as the 18th General Officer Commanding of 56 Division during a formal ceremony at the 56 Division Headquarter premises in Kokeliya, Vavuniya on 18 April 2018.
A Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour were presented by troops in conformity with true military pomp and ceremonial splendour to the newly-appointed General Officer Commanding after his arrival at the premises.
Thereafter, the newly appointed General Officer Commanding planted a sapling to mark the assuming of duties and placed his signature on a formal document after lighting the traditional oil lamp amidst religious observances symbolizing the authority of the new office.

Commanders of 561 and 563 Brigades, Principal Staff Officers of 56 Division Headquarters, large number of Other Ranks of under command battalions to 56 Division attended the events.
