The 56 Inf Div was established with the commencement of the Third Eelam War, Division actively participated in the operations up to the last humanitarian operation. This Div made a significant contribution to the security of the famous A-9 road. On the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the 56 Inf Div on 17th October 2020, blood donation programme was held under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding Major General Wasantha de Abrew with the assistance of Dr Chathurani Dissanayaka and her staff of District Hospital -Vavuniya.118 personnel including Officers, Other Ranks and Civil Servants of the Division Headquarters and under command Brigades and Battalions donated blood at the event on 10th September 2020.
