A remarkable act of humanitarian service was carried out in Karappakutti when a newly constructed home was handed over to a deserving low-income family on 24 September 2024. The project reflects the compassionate vision of Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and the guidance of Major General J P C Peiris RWP RSP ndc, Commander Security Forces (Wanni) and the supervision of Major General S Kasturimudali RSP ndc psc, General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division and Spearheaded by Brigadier B D Fernando USP Hdmc psc, Commander 561 Infantry Brigade and supported by Major WH Wickramasingha RSP USP psc lsc, Commanding Officer and all ranks of 16 SLSR.
Played a key role in providing financial assistance, manpower, technical support and the team's efforts with the special financial contribution by Mr Shantha Dalugamage – Founder of Stichting Mission Lanka from Netherland and Mr SJ Samaraweera – Agriculture entrepreneur from Japan at the project's final stage ensured its smooth completion and culminated in the completion of a new home, symbolizing the Army's commitment to nation-building and improving the lives of those in need. The handover ceremony, blessed with religious rites, was attended by community members and local dignitaries, including Mr Sanka Jayanath Coordinator of Stichting Mission Lanka.
This initiative reaffirms the Sri Lanka Army’s dedication to social welfare and community upliftment, demonstrating their enduring commitment to the nation's development.
