ARMY TROOPS ASSIST IN RESTORATION OF PARTLY BREACHED SITHUMINIYAKULAM TANK BUND IN MANNAR DISTRICT DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS

Due to adverse weather conditions affecting the country, a part of the Sithuminiyakulamtank bund in Mannar District, located in the Sithuiminiyakulam Village, Grama Niladhari Division of Koorai, collapsed under the pressure of heavy water flow. As a result, floodwaters threatened the Koorai village, posing a risk to the homes and farmland of the local residents.

With the direction of Commander 541 Infantry Brigade Brigadier I P Jayasinghe RWP, the Commanding Officer and troops of 5 (V) Mechanized Infantry Regiment along with the villagers, worked together to temporarily repair the tank bund by using sandbags on 26 November 2024 to prevent further water leakage.

The village comprises 91 houses with 277 residents, and efforts were aimed at safeguarding their homes and preventing potential damage to the farmland.
