ARMY ALONG WITH “RAJA JEWELLERS” CONSTRUCTS THREE NEW HOUSES FOR NEEDY FAMILIES

Displaying a higher state of benevolence and setting an example to others, Chairman of Raja Jewellers, Mr. Athula Eliyapura and his lady Mrs. Asanga Eliyapura voluntarily and willingly came forward to finance construction of three (03) houses to three underprivileged, deprived and deserving families in the rural interiors of Vavuniya. The Eliyapura family was made aware of the difficulties faced by villagers and the project was coordinated by Colonel General Staff of Headquarters Security Force (Wanni) Colonel Anil Peiris RSP USP psc.

Due to their generous philanthropy, Security Force Wanni was able to extend their social welfare activity of constructing houses for the benefit of underprivileged people in Wanni region. Families selected were the most deserving in an area where poverty is in abundance. Having their own home would have been merely restricted to a dream if Mr. and Mrs. Eliyapura had not come forward.

Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu along with Mr. Athula Eliyapura and Madam Eliyapura handed over the houses to families of Mr W Nandasena, Mrs A P Lalani, and Mr H S Dhanushka Pradeep Kumaraon 03 April 2019 during a simple house-warming ceremony.

Mr Nandasena with his wife and five children had been living in great despair due to economic constraints for a long period of time at Puleliya in Medawachchiya. Being the sole breadwinner, he was working as an unskilled labourer and taking care his ailing wife suffering from chronic kidney disease. Construction of the house for Mr Nandasena was undertaken by 5 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry under 213 Brigade with the supervision of General Officer Commanding - 21 Division Brigadier Kumar Jayapathirana RSP.

Second beneficiary was Mrs A P Lalani and her four children living at Selalihinigama in Bogaswewa. Mrs Lalani was not in a position to send her children to school as she was struggling to find at least a single meal a day for them. Construction of the house for Mrs. Lalani was undertaken by 7 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment under supervision of General Officer Commanding - 56 Division Major General Prabath Dematanpitiya ndu psc.

Last recipient, Mr H S Dhanushka Pradeep Kumara’s house at Konketiyawa, Welioya was constructed by 14 (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry under Commander 621 Brigade Colonel R A D S S Ranaweera RWP RSP USP psc with the supervision of General Officer Commanding - 62 Division Brigadier Dammika Jayasinghe.

In addition to the new house, the recipients also received furniture, essential kitchen equipment, electric appliances and a cash donation worth over Rs. 100,000.00 from philanthropists Mr. Athula Eliyapura and Madam Eliyapura.

Further, all beneficiaries also received a modern electric tube well costing over Rs. 100,000.00 sponsored by Mr. Samantha Geeganage, the managing director of Amila Tyre Mart, Colombo.
