Series of religious programmes were organised by 62 Division to celebrate Vesak during 29, 30 April and 01 May 2018 under the guidance and supervision of General Officer Commanding 62 Division, Brigadier L A N S Wanigasinghe RWP RSP USP.
Many Vesak Lanterns were exhibited at the Vesak Kalapayaorganised in Parakramapura public grounds and they were illuminated by the General Officer Commanding 62 Division Brigadier L A N S Wanigasinghe RWP RSP USP who was the chief guest.
All Vesak lanterns were assessed by an eminent panel of judges and the first place was awarded to 17 Sri Lanka National Guard while second and third places were secured by 26 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 11 Gemunu Watch respectively.
Thousands of villagers in surrounding areas arrived to the Vesak Kalapaya on 30 and 01 May evening where they were provided with refreshments by troops of 62 Division.
The splendour of this noble event was enhanced with the Bhakti Gee recital organised with the participation of students in Buddhangala School, Aluthhalmillawewa School, Parakramapura School, Aliwanguwa School, ChethiyagiriDhamma School and Civil Defence Force.
The Vesak Zone was successfully concluded on 01 May 2018 with the participation of Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and large number of civilians in Padhavi – Parakramapura area.
