Troops of 61 Division under the supervision of General Officer Commanding 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP engaged in repairing the road from Poovarasankulam to Thunukkai working tirelessly during 12, 13 and 14 January 2019.
This gravel road is the only access route for thousands of villagers living in Velankulam, Iranaiiuppaikulam, Kakkayankulam, Periyawalayankaddu. But due to the poor maintenance and extreme weather conditions, the road became a great hazard for people travelling Poovarankulam and Thunukkai daily.
Construction of road network was launched by troops of Headquarters 61 Division along with villagers employing 5 tractors with a motor grader.
After three days hard work, troops were able to restore the road as its original condition and the untiring effort of the Army was praised by all villagers living nearby.
