61 DIVISION NEW YEAR CELEBRATION THAT PRIORITIZED TRADITIONAL CUSTOMS AND FOLK GAMES
With the intention of promoting traditional customs and folk games among all communities, 61 Division organized a Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival at 61 Division camp premises, Wellankulama on 23 April 2016 under the guidance of Brigadier SHFP Perera RSP ndu, General Officer Commanding – 61 Division. Many traditional and fun games included in the festival like pot cracking, climbing grease tree, pillow fighting, tug of war, , cycle race, cadjan - weaving, , fancy dress, selection of Avurudu Kumari, etc. General Officer Commanding – 61 Division graced the occasion as the chief guest. Brigade Commanders, State Officers, Senior Officers of other services , Other Ranks and civilians from Wellankulama area took part in the event. Finally, Chief Guest presented the prizes for winners of Army and civilians who took part and won the events of the festival. All the participants were entertained by the musical show at the same day night.
