61 DIVISION AND ALL ITS UNDER COMMAND BRIGADES CONDUCT CHARITABLE EVENTS TO MARK MAHA SHIVA RATHRI.

As the concept of strengthening the reconciliation and harmony between all communities in Wanni region, Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumud Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu directed its under command formations to conduct series of charitable activities on account of celebrating of significant religious festivals of Hindus “Maha Shiva Rathri”.

In that context, 61 Division under the careful supervision of General Officer Commanding Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP, all Brigades under 61 Division conducted series of charitable activities on March 2019 based on three Hindu Kovils located in those Brigade areas.

As the first event, troops of 611 Brigade organised a “Shramadhana Campaign” with villagers in Ichchankulam area to clean the kovil premises of Ichchankulam. An officer and 20 other ranks represented 611 Brigade actively participated in the programme under the directions of Commander 611 Brigade Colonel L D S S Liyange RSP USP psc.

Adding another event for this series of activities, troops under 612 Brigade organised a “Shramadhan Campaign” to clean the premises of Sri Muththumari Amman kovil with the participation of 21 Army personals from 612 Brigade under the supervision made by Colonel S W B Welagedara RSP.

As the final event of series of these charitable activities, troops of 613 Brigade conducted a Shramadhana Campaign to make the premises of Murugan kovil, Thachchanamaradhamadu clean and tidy with the participation of 15 soldiers under the guidance of Commander 613 Brigade Colonel R K N C Jayawardhana RSP.

These series of events were highly appraised by all communities living in those Brigade areas.
