With the Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic downturn, there has been a noticeable rise in alcohol consumption, smoking, and a growing inclination toward fast-money-earning methods among army personnel. As a proactive measure to prevent soldiers from engaging in such activities, the 54 Infantry Division conducted a Drug Awareness Lecture Program on 19 March 2025 under the guidance of Major General A. M. C. P. Wijayarathne RWP RSP nps psc, General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division, in collaboration with the Police Narcotics Bureau.
The lecture was delivered by Police Inspector Osman Fernando (OIC-Training) and Police Sergeant Suranga Kumara of the Police Narcotics Bureau. All officers and soldiers of the 54 Infantry Division, along with personnel from under-command brigades and battalions, actively participated in the program.
This initiative aimed to educate military personnel on the dangers of substance abuse and reinforce discipline within the ranks, ensuring their well-being and operational effectiveness.
