54 Infantry Division troops bid farewell to the outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General GWA Seneviratne USP psc with a formal ceremony which filled with military traditions on Wednesday (15 Nov) at the 54 Infantry Division premises.
On arrival, the outgoing General Officer Commanding was accorded a Guard Turnout at the camp entrance. As the first segment of the day’s proceedings, the monument in Division Headquarter paid tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes. Afterwards, he was invited to take the salute of the Guard of Honour, presented by troops of the Artillery. Afterwards, he placed his signature in an official document signifying the handing over of his duties at his office.
Adding memories to the day, he was invited to pose for a pause few photographs with the staff before addressing all ranks in the compound and thanked them for their generous assistance and support extended to him during his tenure. Towards the end of the troop address, he was presented with special mementoes by 54 Infantry Division, under command Brigades and Battalions before he interacted with the troops during a formal all rank tea. At the end of the day, a farewell dinner was hosted in honour for the outgoing General Officer Commanding at the Officers’ Mess.
General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks took part in the day’s programme.
