With the beginning of Monsoon Season, several areas of Northern Province are being under showery weather and rising of many health issues such as Dengue. Therefore, troops under 54 Division conducted a cleaning programme at several areas in Mannar town during 08 and 09 October 2018 on account of the 69th Army Anniversary.
Over 55 Officers and 800 Other Ranks voluntarily made their contribution with the purpose of keeping the city clean. This project was launched under the direction Commander 542 Brigade Colonel IHMRK Herath USP and with the supervision of General Officer Commanding 54 Division Brigadier WGHAS Bandara RWP RSP ndu.
Before launching the project, the opening ceremony was held at 0730 on 08 October 2018 at the Municipal Council Ground in Mannar with the participation of Ambagahawewa Sangakiththi thero, the Bishop of Mannar most Rev. Dr Fildelis Lionel Emmanuel Fernando, Kurukal R. Samipillei, Rev. Moulavi MT Basith and heads of government institutions.
