Under the leadership of Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General J P C Peiris RWP RSP ndc, and with the direction of General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division Major General Nishantha Muthumala USP psc, troops of the 12th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment carried out a life-saving rescue operation in Vavuniya, North Central Province. The regiment’s Commanding Officer, Major Rangala Gamlathge RWP RSP, and his troops responded urgently when a man, who had ventured dangerously close to the spill bund of the Kalmadu Reservoir, was swept away by its powerful currents. This courageous act, executed under the supervision of Colonel Mangala Amarasinghe RWP psc, Commander 562 Infantry Brigade showcased their unwavering dedication to humanitarian service.
Despite hazardous conditions, the troops demonstrated exceptional skill and coordination, braving treacherous currents to retrieve the individual and bring him to safety.
