“Under the Clean Sri Lanka Programme, the invasive plants including Japan Jabara (Giant Sensitive Plant) growing around the Kala Wewa reservoir will be removed through the programme themed ‘Let’s Give Kala Wewa Back to Elephants’

In parallel with the “Clean Sri Lanka” Programme, the “Wild Tuskers” Organization, under the full supervision of Brigadier B. A. M. P. Balasuriya RSP, Commander of the 212 Infantry Brigade ,carried out on the second day the removal of invasive plants such as Agada and Japanese Jabara, which had spread across the bund of Ballalu Tank in a manner disruptive to the lifestyle of elephants.

This programme was conducted on 06.09.2025 from 0900 hrs to 1400 hrs, during which nearly 14 acres of these invasive plants were cleared. The balance is scheduled to be cleared on 07.09.2025 at the outer area of Ballalu Tank.

For this event, personnel from 7 Sri Lanka Armed Regiment, 1 Gajaba Regiment, 4 Sri Lanka National Guard , along with the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, Department of Wildlife Conservation, Mahaweli Authority, Department of Irrigation, other state and private institutions, civil organizations, and civilians participated.
