Bicycles Distributed Among Needy Schoolchildren Commemorating the 72nd Independence Day

In another social welfare oriented programme organized with guidance of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, 411 Bicycles were donated to schoolchildren of destitute families across Jaffna Peninsula.

Four ceremonies to hand over the donation made by Mast Industries Far East Limited, the Colombo buying office of Limited Brands Mast Cares Team USA to recipients were held on Sunday 02 February 2020 and it benefitted 411 students.

The event coincides with the 72nd Independence Day celebrations.

Medical Camp in Maradankerny, Jaffna

Another event of welfare for the civil community in Jaffna peninsula was initiated by Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna in collaboration with the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress and Success Colombo Organization on Saturday 25 January 2020 at the Divisional Hospital in Maradankerny. Specialist Dr. (Retired) Anula Wijesundara and her medical team gave their assistance to uplift the healthcare standards of the people in the area

The medical camp was coordinated and organized by the troops of 553 Brigade under the supervision of 55 Division. Approximately 200 people were treated and educated by the medical team which consisted of 4 doctors and 10 medical staff. Senior officers, officers and troops were present at the Programme.

Jaffna Troops Celebrate Thai Pongal in Point Pedro

Joining hands with the civil community in Point Pedro, troops under Security Forces Jaffna organized a Thai Pongal celebration traditional event at Alwai Sri Vallipuram Swami Kovil on Wednesday 15 January 2020. The event in which a large number of devotees and Hindu dignitaries took part, was organized by 55 Divisions on the direction of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna.

Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, General Officers Commanding 55 and 51 Divisions, Senior Officers and Troops participated in the ceremony.

Troops Renovate the Road Running from Iyyakachchi to Kadeikadu

Upon the adverse weather condition existed in Jaffna Peninsula during last monsoon season, the road running from Iyyakachchi Junction to Kadeikadu was damaged and hampered the routine public transport services. Accordingly the day- to- day life of the people in Veththalakerni and Kovil areas was affected due to the adverse weather condition.

With a short notice, the troops of 23 The Gemunu Watch and 12 The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment under the 552 Brigade initiated necessary measures to repair the damaged road during the first week of January 2020, following the directions of Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, General Officer Commanding 55 Division. Troops assistance was praised by the civil community and government authorities in the area.

Army Troops Paves the Access Road to Transits Home of Telippalei Cancer Hospital

The access road to Transits Home of Telippalei Cancer Hospital was renovated by the Army troops laying a concrete layer on the directions of the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya in response to the request made by Mrs. Arunthathy Edwadpullei.

The collective endeavor of the troops belong to 10th Sri Lanka Artillery, 10 Field Regiment Sri Lanka Engineers, 2nd Battalion Gamunu Watch and 5 Corps of Engineer Services was praised by the Hospital Staff and the civilians. The funds for the renovation work was provided by Mrs. Arunthathy Edwadpullei.

A formal ceremony held on Saturday 11 January 2020 to declare open the renovated road was graced by the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna. General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Donor Mrs. Arunthathy Edwadpullei, Director of Health Service Northern Province, Doctors and Hospital Staff, Army Officers, Troops and Residents were present in the occasion.

Ex-Servicemen Get-Together in Jaffna

The Army ex –Servicemen who live in Jaffna peninsula were reunited and entertained during a get- together organized by Security Forces Headquarters – (Jaffna) at Thalsevana Holiday Resort on Saturday 11 January 2020 in a ceremony organized under directions of the Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya. The retired military personnel who had completed 22 years of service in the Sri Lanka Army way back in 1980s and 1990s spent the day with exhilaration and entertainment provided at Thalsevana Holiday Resort.

Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, General Officers Commanding 55 and 51 Divisions, Senior Staff Officers and Regimental Sargent Major of Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna were sharing the joy and spirit of the season with the ex-servicemen.

Jaffna Troops Join With Donors of The Civil Community to Share the Spirit of Thai Pongal

During the festive season, the troops of Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) join with the civil community to share the spirit of Thaipongal and facilitated them by making donations. Accordingly, on the direction of the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, a programme was organized to donate bicycles for needy school children in Jaffna on Wednesday 08 January 2020 at the Security Forces Headquarters. The donation was made by Limited Brands Mast Cares Team USA – Buying Office in Colombo Named Mast Industries Far East Limited and it benefitted 110 students.

Commander Security Forces – Jaffna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the donation programme in the presence of Ms. Diyana Cramer, Senior Administrator – Support Operation of Mast Industries (Far East) Limited – Sri Lanka.

Chief High Priest of Sri Kanthaswamy Temple – Maviddapuram, General Officer Commanding 55 Division, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North), Brigadier Admin and Quartering Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna), Senior Officers, Members of Mast Industries (Far East) Limited – Sri Lanka, Officials of Sarvodaya – Jaffna Branch, Troops, School Children and Parents were gathered at the function.

School Children Receive Stationary Items

The troops of Security Forces – Jaffna keen in supporting the deserving students in Jaffna peninsula, donated 320 packs of Stationary Items to deserving students in RCTM School Kadeikadu in Jaffna Peninsula on Monday 06 January 2020. The programme was organized by 553 Brigade under the guidance and instructions of the General Officer Commanding 55 Division, Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda.

Pre-School Students Visit Jaffna Airport

Upon the directions and guidance of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, another visit of pre-school students to Palaly Airport was facilitated by the troops on Friday 03rd January 2020. A number of 53 students of Palar Pahal pre-school in Nirwely along with teachers and their parents visited the premises of newly opened Jaffna International Airport to experience the scenery of aircrafts.

Conducting of A Blood Donation Programme

Upon the request made by Jaffna Teaching Hospital, Troops of 5 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps conducted a Blood Donation Camp on Thursday, 21 November 2019 in order to address the requirement at Blood Bank, Jaffna. The campaign was coordinated by Army Base Hospital Palaly in which a large number of Officers/Other Rankers Serving under Security Forces – Jaffna attended to donate blood.
