Commander of the Army Inaugurates ‘Uppuvayal Kulam’ Tank in Vaddukoddai
Security Forces (Jaffna) extended another phase of social welfare projects, to preserve water resource for the benefit of framers and citizens in Vaddukoddai area. On the request brought forward by Dr. Sidambaran Mohan the President of 'Friends of Jaffna' organization and the Farmers' Society of Vadukkoddai – Southwest with the coordination of Mr. E Nishanth the Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture Development Board, Mrs Premani Ponnambalam Divisional Secretary of Walikamam West and Mr. K Maheshan Government Agent Jaffna, Major General Senarath Bandara Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) directed under command troops to renovate the unattended ‘Uppuvayal Kulam’ tank in Vaddukkodai for the public use. The most important manpower for the renovation project was provided by troops belong to 10 Field Regiment of Sri Lanka Engineers and 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry under the supervision of Brigadier Mohamed Fariz Commander 513 Brigade and Major General Sumith Premalal General Officer Commanding 51 Division.
The perfectly renovated ‘Uppuvayal Kulam’ tank in Vaddukkodai was inaugurated by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva during a grand ceremony held on 17 December 2020 following the best practices of social distancing. On the occasion, the farmers beseeched the blessings of deities by mixing holy water brought from the Kashi Ganga Nadi (River Ganges in Varanasi) in India into the new waters.
