Army Commander Meets Ex-Servicemen in Jaffna

Ex-servicemen in Jaffna peninsula who rendered a yeoman service to the Ceylon Army met the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID – 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc during his visit to Security Forces (Jaffna) on 18 July 2020. Mr. Kandaiya Kanapathi Pulle, Mr. S. Arulambalam, Mr. Siwalonadan Ahambaram, Mr. Muttia Muturasa and Mr. Sinna Tambi Nadaeasa had a cordial meeting with the Army Chief and discussed on past service life in Ceylon Army and welfare facilities. Further they shared their views on the commendable service of the Sri Lanka Army on maintaining the peace and during the Covid 19 pandemic while acknowledging the decisive role of the Army Commander. After the discussion the Commander of the Army offered gifts of appreciation for the Ex-servicemen and Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya Commander Security Forces Jaffna also associated the Army Commander.

Army Leads People to Say No to Polythene and Plastic in Jaffna

Apart from the tireless efforts against COVID – 19 pandemic, troops under Security Forces Jaffna made initiatives to preserve Jaffna town as a polythene and plastic free city. On the conceptual directives of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Lalith Rathnayake, General Officer Commanding 51 Division guided under command troops to clean up Jaffna town and vicinity collecting polythene, plastic and waste materials on 12 July 2020 in order to prevent environment pollution.

Sri Lanka police, Special Task Force and Disaster Management Centre in Jaffna supported the troops to launch this initiative to make polythene and plastic free environment in Jaffna town. Mr. Vamadeva Thiagendran, Founder and Chairman of Thiyahie Charitable Trust Fund also participated this environmental programme.

Jaffna Troops Undertake Sterilization of Schools

On the directives of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, troops under 55 Division of Security Forces – Jaffna under took sterilization of schools located in Kilaly, Iyakachchi, Palai, Marudankarny, Ampan, Nagarkovil and Champiyanpaththu areas on 02 July 2020 in order to prevent spreading of COVID 19 virus and protect the school children in Jaffna peninsula from global pandemic.

Jaffna Troops Undertake Sterilization of Schools

On the directives of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, troops under 51 Division of Security Forces – Jaffna under took sterilization of schools established in Chunnakam, Inuvil, Uduvil, Kopay, Thavady, Ujarapulam, Urumpirai, Velanai, Keyts, Ariyalai, Arali, Vaddukkodai, Sangarathai, Mallakam, Alaveddy, Pannalai, Maviddapuram, Sandilippay, Thaiyiddi, Kankesanthurai, Palali, Kurumpasiddy, Vasavilan, Mailiddy, Valalai Kopay, Irupalai, Karampan, Thellippalai, Veemankamam, Vardavilan, Ottakappulam and Urani areas on 27 to 30 June 2020 in order to prevent spreading of COVID 19 virus and protect the school children in Jaffna peninsula from global pandemic.

Jaffna Troops Undertake Sterilization of Schools

On the directives of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, troops under 52 Division of Security Forces – Jaffna under took sterilization of schools established in Idaikadu, Achchuveli, Thondamanaru, Uduppiddy, Imayanan, Meesalai, Allarai, Vidaththatpalai, Madduvil, Karampakurichchi, Varani, kodikamam, Idaikurichchi and Paththameni area on 26 June 2020 in order to prevent spreading of COVID 19 virus and ensure a healthy environment for school children.

Jaffna Troops Undertake Disinfection of Students' Hostels at University Of Jaffna

On the request made by authorities of University of Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna directed troops under 51 Division to undertake disinfection of Anandacumarasamy Girls' Hostel - Thirunelvely, Balasingam Boys' Hostel - Thirunelvely, Kokuvil new Girls' Hostel 1& 2 - Kokuvil and Kokuvil new Hostel 1& 2 - Kokuvil buildings and surrounding areas on 30 June 2020 in order to prevent spreading of COVID 19 virus and ensure a healthy environment for university students in Jaffna. During the disinfection programme the Police Special Task Force extended their support to Sri Lanka Army.

Sinhalese Donors From the South Donate a House for a Tamil Female Soldier in the North

A ceremony was organized by 52 Division on Thursday, 18 June 2020 to hand over a newly constructed house for a female Soldier serving in Palali, Jaffna. Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, handed over the new house to female Soldier Darshika Jesuthasan enlisted to the Army Women’s Corps from Jaffna peninsula and currently serving at Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna. Her father Mr. Ganapragasam Jesuthasan has served in the Sri Lanka Navy rendering a reckonable service to the nation. Financial support for the construction was made by Mr. Kumar Weerasuriya and his colleagues who have funded many houses in Jaffna already. The troops belonging to 11 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment provided much needed manpower for the construction work under the supervision of Commander 521 Brigade.

Foundation Laid for a New House for a Deserving Family in Jaffna

During a brief ceremony organized on 12th June 2020, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya laid the foundation stone for the construction of new house for Mrs. G. Nilajini and her family in Karanawai, Jaffna.

Mr. Kumara Weerasooriya will coordinate the financial costs of material for the construction work on the request of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna. The troops of 4 Sri Lanka Singha Regiment under the supervision of commander 551 Brigade will provide much needed manpower for construction work.
