Extending humanitarian assistance to needy community in Jaffna peninsula, Security Forces (Jaffna) coordinated another contribution by a well-wisher to bestow a new shelter to a deserving family in Kopai, Jaffna on 16 May 2020.

Mrs. Rasadorai Sandeeran Mala in Kopai area received a new house with land by Mr. Vamadeva Thiagendran, Founder and Chairman of Thiyahie Charitable Trust and it was coordinated by Major General Lalith Rathnayake General Officer Commanding 51 Division. The handing over ceremony was graced by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), and General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers and Troops witnessed the occasion.

In line with welfare programme conducted to facilitate civil community during COVID 19 pandemic Jaffna troops on the directions of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya distributed dry ration packs and prepared lunch packets among the needy community in Jaffna peninsula. The funds for this good gesture were generated with contribution from Army Buddhist Association, Jaffna troops and through saving funds otherwise spent on numerous Vesak decorations.

The welfare programme was conducted by the Security Forces - Jaffna to mark the Vesak full moon poya day and it benefitted over 750 needy families in Thondaimanaru, Kerudavil, Velvettithurai, Avarangal, Navalaiyattal, Ketpely, Mirusuvil, Pavasikkulam, Kaithady, Chavakachcheri, Kaddaikadu, Mallakam, Veththilakkeny, Kevil, Walalai, Innuvil, Waddukkodai, Navanthurai, Savalkattu, Uduvil and Kytes areas.

The distribution programmes which were conducted on 07 May 2020 with the participation of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, General Officers Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Divisions, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers and Troops were held scattered throughout the peninsula with small numbers attending each with appropriate social distancing and hygienic best practices.

Troops engaged in duties at Elephant-pass quarantine centre hosted birthday celebrations of two kids that came from Keselwatta area, Colombo.

The 12th birthday of Fathima Safaa on 04 May 2020 and 06th birthday of Fathima Arshad on 06 May 2020 were celebrated privately without any gathering at the Elephant-pass quarantine centre where parents and relatives participated adopting social distancing best practices. The humanitarrian gesture was facilitated by troops of 55 Division under Security Forces (Jaffna).

During a brief ceremony organized on 6th May 2020, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya laid the foundation stone for a new house for Mrs. K Sahida and her family in Uduvil (South), Jaffna.

Mr. Kumara Weerasooriya will bear the financial costs of material for the construction work on the request of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna. The troops of 9 Sri Lanka Light Infantry under the supervision of commander 511 Brigade will provide the much needed manpower for construction work.

After the foundation laying dry ration packets were distributed among few selected families of the area. General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Commander 511 Brigade, Senior Officers and Troops associated the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna during the ceremony which was carried out in line with social distancing best practices.

A ceremony was organized in Urumpirai (West) on 05 May 2020 to hand over another new house constructed by Army troops for a low-income family. The new house was handed over to Mrs.Arumgam Rasamma by Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya during a brief ceremony held with a small gathering following social distancing best practices. Financial support for the construction was made by Miss. Thushara Thenuwara and All Ranks of 5 Sri Lanka Army Service Corpsto mark the 12th Anniversary of Battalion. The troops belonging to 15 Sri Lanka National Guard under the supervision of commander511 Brigade provided much needed manpower for the construction work.

General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Commander 511 Brigade, Senior Officers Troops and Residents participated the handing over ceremony.

On the directives of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, troops under 55 Division of Security Forces - Jaffna under took Sterilization of state institutes, welfare centres, state and private bank, etc established in Point Pedro, Puloli, Vattilaikerny and Mullian area in order to prevent spreading of COVID - 19 virus on Sunday 19 April 2020.

On the directives of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, troops under 51 Division of Security Forces - Jaffna under took Sterilization of state institutes, hospitals, bus stands, welfare centers, state and private bank, etc established in Chunnakam, Thirunelvely, Arali, Nallur, Valikamam, Chankanai and Tellippalai area in order to prevent spreading of COVID - 19 virus on Saturday 18 April 2020.

Troops under command to 51, 52 and 55 Divisions under Security Forces - Jaffna continues disinfection of public places and institutes situated in Chunnakam, Kokuvil, Chankanai, Tellippalai, Nallur, Uduvil, Thirunelvely, Valvettithurai, Kodikamam, Chavakachcheri, Achchuveli, Nelliady, Puloli, Kovilvayal, Iyakachchi, Muhavil, Mullian, Ampan, Vattilaikerny, Pokkaruppu and Maruthankerny areas in Jaffna Peninsula.

On the directives of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, the troops carried out disinfection process at Railway Stations, Schools, University, Post Offices, Hospitals, Bus Stations, Pharmacies, Welfare Centers, State and Private Banks, Trade Centers etc in order to Safeguard the general public and nation against COVID - 19 pandemic.

Sri Lanka Army in Jaffna peninsula organized another programme to provide relief for needy people during the curfew where essential measures have been imposed by the government to control of spread and eradicate the COVID - 19 pandemic. Accordingly, on the directives of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, troops under 511 Brigade and 513 Brigade of 51 Division distributed dry ration packs among needy families residing in Ilavalai, Urumpirai, Uduviland Chunnakam areas on 15 April 2020.

In view of developing Sporting skills, particularly basketball among the youth in Jaffna, 512 Brigade under the guidance of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, organized a Basketball League Tournament where eight School Teams competed. The Championship was clinched by the Kokuvil Hindu College - Kokuvil and the runners up were the Angel International School - Manipai. The final encounter was held on Tuesday, 25 February 2020 at Public Basketball Court Old Park - Jaffna.

Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and awarded the Championship trophy to the winners. General Officers Commanding 51 and 55 Divisions, Commander Forward Maintain Area (North), Brigade Commanders, Secretary of Education Northern Province, Senior Officers, Principals, Teachers, Troops, President of Basketball Association - Jaffna and many spectators gathered within the thrilling event.
