To be an effective instrument to the Government Endeavour to cultivate national harmony in Jaffna Peninsula through uplifting the physical quality of life and spiritual value of the people.

In view of promoting peace, reconciliation and wellbeing of the community in Jaffna peninsula, Army troops have launched a number of projects assisting the people uplifting their living standards and espousing social wellbeing. Initiating another chapter of Civil Military Cooperation, a “Harmony Centre” was declared open in Kopay on 29 September 2020. This Civil-military Coordinating centre was set up by Army troops on the conceptual direction of Major General Senerath Bandara Commander Security Forces – Jaffna.
The harmony centre plans to accommodate many community oriented projects that will reinforce expectations of reconciliation and community development. Community programmes related to Health, Education, Communication & Information, Construction, Empowering Women & Children, Cultural & Religious activities, Sports & Entertainment and Vocational Training are scheduled to be facilitated for the benefit of the general public and particularly the youth in Jaffna peninsula. Accordingly, the space at the harmony centre would be utilized for Cultural Dance, Folk Music, Education, IT Education, Health and Wellbeing in order to address needs of the affected and disadvantaged sections of the society. Later it is expected to include many more additions such as Sports Development etc. Accordingly, the first stage of Students Registration for Sinhala Language course was commenced right after the opening ceremony.
The Land and Financial support for the construction for the new Harmony Centre was provided by Mr. Vamadeva Thiagendran, Founder and Chairman of Thiyahie Charitable Trust and it was coordinated by Major General Lalith Rathnayake, General Officer Commanding 51 Division.
General Officers Commanding 51 Division, Brigade Commanders under 51 Division, Senior Officers, Mr. Vamadeva Thiagendran, Troops, Civilians and Students were present to witness the opening ceremony.
