Defence Secretary Visits Jaffna Along with the Tri Forces Commanders

Secretary to Ministry of Defence Major General (Retired) Kamal Gunarathne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil and several defence officials of Ministry of Defence paid a visit to Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) on 17th June 2020 and had an official meeting with the Tri-Forces Commanders, Security Force Commanders (Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu), Northern Naval Commander and Air Force Base Commander in Jaffna.

Foundation Laid for a New House for a Deserving Family in Jaffna

During a brief ceremony organized on 12th June 2020, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya laid the foundation stone for the construction of new house for Mrs. G. Nilajini and her family in Karanawai, Jaffna.

Mr. Kumara Weerasooriya will coordinate the financial costs of material for the construction work on the request of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna. The troops of 4 Sri Lanka Singha Regiment under the supervision of commander 551 Brigade will provide much needed manpower for construction work.

Jaffna Troops Handed Over Another Shelter for Needy Family

A ceremony was organized by 51 Division on Monday, 01 June 2020 to hand over a newly constructed house for a needy family in Chankanai. On the invitation of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, the new house was handed over to Mrs. Jagadishwaran Ampikavathy by Government Agent – Jaffna Mr. Kanapathipillai Maheshan during a brief ceremony held with a small gathering. Financial support for the construction was made by Government Funds and donation by few donors. The troops belonging to 11th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 5th Engineer Service Regiment provided much needed manpower for the construction work under the supervision of Commander 513 Brigade.

A New House for Deserving Family in Jaffna

A ceremony was organized by 51 Division in Vaddukoddai on 20 May 2020 to hand over another new house constructed by Army troops for a low-income family. The new house was handed over to Mrs. Mohan Uththarajini by Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya during a brief ceremony held with a small gathering adopting social distancing best practices. Financial support for the construction was made by Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna. The troops belonging to 11th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 5th Engineer Service Regiment under the supervision of Commander 513 Brigade provided much needed manpower for the construction work. Further, with the financial contribution of Mr. Thabotharan Vishwanadan a Tube Well was donated to aforesaid family on the same occasion.

General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Brigade Commanders, Divisional Secretary – Walikamam West, Senior Officers, Troops and Residents participated the handing over ceremony.

Handing Over a New House to a Deserving Family

Extending humanitarian assistance to needy community in Jaffna peninsula, Security Forces (Jaffna) coordinated another contribution by a well-wisher to bestow a new shelter to a deserving family in Kopai, Jaffna on 16 May 2020.

Mrs. Rasadorai Sandeeran Mala in Kopai area received a new house with land by Mr. Vamadeva Thiagendran, Founder and Chairman of Thiyahie Charitable Trust and it was coordinated by Major General Lalith Rathnayake General Officer Commanding 51 Division. The handing over ceremony was graced by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), and General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers and Troops witnessed the occasion.

Jaffna Troops Continue Providing Relief to Deserving Families

Amidst the fight against spread of COVID – 19 pandemic, troops under 7th Battalion Sri Lanka Women’s Corps extended humane support to deserving families in Myliddy and Urani area by distributing dry and fresh ration packs. The programme was conducted on 09 May 2020 on the directions of Major Rashmi Galhena, Commanding Officer 7th Battalion Sri Lanka Women’s Corps. A lot of Children and Pregnant women were benefitted during the distribution programme.

Presidential Task Force to Ensure Health Security of Tri Forces Visits Jaffna

The Presidential Task Force to Prevent Covid-19 Virus among Tri Forces headed by Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Goonetileke Governor of Western Province and other Task Force members made a field visit to Jaffna peninsula on 12th and 13th May 2020, to inspect and provide instructions on measures to be taken by all military establishments to prevent Covid-19 infection among Tri Forces personnel who are directly committed in controlling the spread of Covid-19 pandemc. Admiral (retired) Jayantha Perera, Major General (retired) Sumedha Perera, Rear Admiral (retired) Ananda Peiris and Dr. Kapila Jayarathna, the members of the Task Force were the other members of the delegation.

Vesak in Jaffna With A Gesture of Goodwill and Sharing

In line with welfare programme conducted to facilitate civil community during COVID 19 pandemic Jaffna troops on the directions of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya distributed dry ration packs and prepared lunch packets among the needy community in Jaffna peninsula. The funds for this good gesture were generated with contribution from Army Buddhist Association, Jaffna troops and through saving funds otherwise spent on numerous Vesak decorations.

The welfare programme was conducted by the Security Forces - Jaffna to mark the Vesak full moon poya day and it benefitted over 750 needy families in Thondaimanaru, Kerudavil, Velvettithurai, Avarangal, Navalaiyattal, Ketpely, Mirusuvil, Pavasikkulam, Kaithady, Chavakachcheri, Kaddaikadu, Mallakam, Veththilakkeny, Kevil, Walalai, Innuvil, Waddukkodai, Navanthurai, Savalkattu, Uduvil and Kytes areas.

The distribution programmes which were conducted on 07 May 2020 with the participation of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, General Officers Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Divisions, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers and Troops were held scattered throughout the peninsula with small numbers attending each with appropriate social distancing and hygienic best practices.
