  • Newly Appointed Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Pays his Maiden Visit to 51 Division

    Major General Senerath Bandara who assumed duties as the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, paid his maiden field visit to 51 Division Headquarters on 11 August 2020.

    The Security Forces Commander was warmly welcomed by the General Officer Commanding 51 Division, and conducted a comprehensive briefing on area of responsibility. The Security Forces Commander addressed the Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and troops under 51 Division.

  • Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya Completes his Tenure as Commander Security Forces – Jaffna

    Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya who held the office of the Commander Security Force (Jaffna) for over a year, relinquished the appointment on 08 August 2020 to assume duties as Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force. Prior to leaving Jaffna, the outgoing Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, paid official visits to 51, 52 and 55 Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area (North), Kankesanthurai and appreciatively addressed troops. He offered his gratitude to All Ranks serving in respective formations for high standard of professionalism maintained during the past year and committed service rendered to maintain a peaceful environment in Jaffna peninsula. On the 07 August, he was extended a Guard of Honour at the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna by the troops of 10th Sri Lanka Artillery.

    Before being appointed the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna on 15 July 2019, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya served as General Officer Commanding 59 Division in Mullaitivu. He has held many responsible Command, Staff and Instructor appointments in the organization and has followed a number of local and foreign courses.

    Since the day he took over the office as Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya initiated several measures to enhance security of Jaffna peninsula, which enabled strengthening the public confidence towards the Security Forces deployed in Jaffna peninsula while maintaining peaceful and free environment for day to day normal life of the population.

  • Legendary War Hero, Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa and Other War Heroes Remembered

    The 28th death anniversary of Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa and several other military War Heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country took place on Saturday, 08 August 2020 amidst military honours at the monument in Araly where Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna participated as the Chief Guest.

    Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, one of the finest warriors ever-produced by the Army in our contemporary history, fell silent on 08 August 1992, along with a few more fellow military veterans and soldiers, Major General Wijaya Wimalarathne, Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha, Colonel H P Stephen, Colonel Y N Palipana, Colonel G H Ariyarathne, Lieutenant Colonel Nalin de Alwis, Lieutenant Commander Asanga Lankathilaka, , Lieutenant Commander C B Wijepura and Corporal Wickramarathne W J while they were on a military assignment in Araly Point, Kayts, Jaffna.

    Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, an old Trinitian, joined the Sri Lanka Army on 25th May 1960. After the basic military training at the Army Training Centre, he left for Sandhurst, UK to receive further training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy before he was commissioned to the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, as a Second Lieutenant on 3rd August 1962.

    Floral wreath-laying and heralding the Last Post brought the day’s commemorative event to an end. A gathering of grateful Officers of the Tri Forces and Other Ranks of the Army were present at the occasion.

  • Foundation Stone Laid for ‘Palaly Piyasa’ Holiday Destination

    Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna organized a brief ceremony to initiate the construction work of ‘Palaly Piyasa’ Holiday Inn in Palaly for all ranks. Accordingly, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces Jaffna laid the foundation stone for the new project.

    Senior Staff Officers of Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna), Officers and Other Ranks witnessed the occasion.

  • ‘Nandana Uyana’ Green Park in Palaly

    Sri Lanka Army in Jaffna being a force of preserving environment, launched another tree planting project in Palaly under the sheer guidance of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) on 06 August 2020. The project named ‘Nandana Uyana’ aims to extend the green cover in Palaly and as a whole in Jaffna peninsula.

    Senior Staff Officers of Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna), Officers and Other Ranks witnessed the occasion.

  • The First Ever Tank in Palaly Declared Open

    The tank named 'Ravindu Wapi' denoting the fact that it harnesses the energy of the rays of rising sun for the well being Jaffna, was declared open by the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID – 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc on 18 July 2020. The Palaly Tank named 'Ravindu Wapi' complete with a spillway, a sluice gate and a walking track was constructed by troops of 10 Field Engineers Regiment and 5 Engineer Services Regiment under the guidance of Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya. The technical supervision and partial funding assistance were provided by the Irrigation Engineer Jaffna. This is considered as the only tank with a properly constructed spillway within Jaffna District that can contain about 65000 cubic meters of natural water. This tank will not only benefit the troops by providing storage for much needed water resource but also will contribute to the enrichment of water table in the surrounding areas.

  • Army Commander Opens the New Army Base Hospital in Vasavilan

    The new Army Base Hospital in Vasavilan that provides Health Facilities for all Army Personal in Jaffna peninsula was declared open by the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID – 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc on 18 July 2020 on the invitation extended by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna.

    Troops under Security Forces – Jaffna especially troops of 4th Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and 5 Engineer Services Regiment contributed for the construction work of the new hospital buildings under the supervision of Directorate of Army Medical Services.

The ceremony was carried out in line with social distancing and current health guidelines.

  • New Building For Yoghurt Production Project for Army Seva Vanitha Unit

    Yoghurt production project at Palaly Army Cantonment which was conducted under supervision and direction of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya the Commander Security Forces – Jaffna will generate funds for the Army Seva Vanitha Fund. A new building for this project was constructed by troops under Security Forces Headquarters with the financial contribution of Security Forces Jaffna and Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit. The Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID – 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc declared open the new building for 'Yoghurt Production Project' on 18 July 2020 on the invitation extended with the gracious presence of Mrs. Sujeewa Nelson the President of Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit. The Yoghurt production will be carried out by the troops belonging to 5 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps.

  • Fully Facilitated Gymnasium at Palaly Army Cantonment

    The All Ranks Gymnasium at Palaly Army Cantonment was recently fully equipped and facilitated for the benefit of Army personnel in Jaffna peninsula. The Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID – 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc declared open the Gymnasium on 18 July 2020 upon the invitation extended by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna. The ceremony followed by troops address by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army

    The construction work of the Gymnasium was completed with Army funds and manpower by the troops under Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna. In addition to fully equipped gymnasium and International standard Badminton Court the Complex is fully equipped with a Tennis Court, Basketball Court and a Volleyball Court.

  • New All Rank Gymnasium at 55 Division

    The All Ranks Gymnasium for the benefit of all Army personnel under 55 Division was declared open by the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID – 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc on 17 July 2020 upon the invitation made by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna and General Officer Commanding 55 Division.

    Lieutenant Commander (Retd) DMK Jayawardhana, a keen facilitator of Tri Forces and Police welfare Division, accepting the request made by Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, General Officer Commanding 55 Division, coordinated the funds and required construction materials for the new all ranks gymnasium under the great patronage of Mrs. Koshila Jayawardhana, chairperson National Serving Bank, Mr. Channa Dunusinghe, Senior Regional Manager AIA Insurance - Kegalle and Mr. Nilantha Bandara Manager AIA Insurance - Kegalle. The required manpower for the construction work was contributed by the troops attached to 55 Division.
