OFFICER WAR HEROES WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE FOR THE MOTHERLANDREMEMBEREDAT THE GEMUNU REGIMENT HEADQUARTERS

The conflict between the Sri Lankan Armed Forces & Tamil Armed Militancy led by the LTTE terrorists over the past three decades claimed the lives of thousands of war heroes of the Motherland. 166 patriotic Officers of the Gemunu Watch made the supreme sacrifice on behalf of the Country.

OFFICER CADETS OF SLMA VISITED THE HOME OF HIGHLANDERS

The Officer Cadets of Regular Intake 78 of Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) Diyathalawa, visited the Regimental Centre - The Gemunu Watch, Kuruwita 30th September 2013. Officer Cadets were warmly welcomed to The Gemunu Watch by Lieutenant Colonel P A J Rodrigo, (General Staff Officer 1) on behalf of the colonel of the Regiment, Centre Commandant and all ranks of the Regimental Centre -GW. Later he conducted a presentation to enhance the knowledge of the Cadets about the regiment and also on the future prospects for the Officers.

HAND OVER AND TAKES OVER OFFICE OF THE SEVA VANITHA BRANCH OF THE GEMUNU WATCH

During the simple ceremony Mrs. Monika Vithanage, the outgoing President of Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Branch symbolizing the relinquishment of office and handed over the duties to Mrs. Anusha Fernando, new President of the Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Branch at the Officers Mess complex of the Gemunu Watch Regiment on o4 June 2017. Mrs. Monika Vithanage, the outgoing President of the Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Branch addressed the members of the sewa vanitha branch and extended her heartfelt gratitude to all members of the branch to their fullest support during her tenure.

GALLANTRY AWRD CEREMONY AT THE HOME OF GEMUNU WATCH

Major General L B R Mark RSP USP ndu, The Colonel of the Regiment of The Gemunu Watch decorated 250 War Heroes by awarding Rana Sura Padakkama .During the dignified ceremony held at the Regimental Centre auditorium on 28th September 2013, A total 25 officers and 225 other ranks received their gallantry medals. These 250 war heroes were selected due to their sincere dedication, commitment and sacrifice made during the humanitarian operations in North and East

EX SERVICEMEN GET TOGETHER

Annual get-together of the Gemunu Watch Ex Serviceman Association was held at the Regimental Center premises of the Gemunu Watch on 25 May 2014. A large no of ex serviceman including retired Senior Officers gathered to celebrate the occasion. Maj Gen PUS Vithanage RSP, Col of the Rgt-GW,Brig MASK Muhandiram RSP ,the Commandant RHQ GW and other Senior Staff officers of RHQ GW also presented at the event to welcome and facilitate the veterans those who sacrificed their entire service life to up held the name of the Regiment and the Army.

EDUCATION PROMGRAMME ON MINES

With the guidance of 55 Division and supervision of 552 Brigade, the 23rd Battalion of the Gemunu Watch organized a workshop on the dangers and effects of Land Mines to educate the Civilians in the Battalion TAOR (Kachcharaweli GN Division). This event was held on 20th May 2013 and was sponsored by the “Peoples Vision International” (NGO).

CPL THUSHARA KUMARA RECEIVES A GIFT OF A NEW HOUSE FROM THE GEMUNU WATCH SEVA VANITHA UNIT

A war Hero Corporal Thushara Kumara RPR of the1st Battalion of the Gemunu Watch was disabled while fighting Tamil Militancy in Jaffna. He got married recently and was gifted a new house on the day of their ‘Home-coming’. This house was sponsored by the “Lt General Denzil Kobbekaduwa Foundation” and also with the financial assistance provided by the Central Finance Company. Labour and construction support for this venture was provided by the 1 GW Soldiers under the supervision of Mrs Rukmani Mark, Chairperson GW Seva Vanitha Unit and Mrs Upamalee Kulasekara.

DISTRIBUTION OF NUTRITIOUS BISCUITS TO KILALI PRE SCHOOL STUDENTS

Pre school students in the Kilali GN Division (KN 05) and primary students of Kilali RTMC School in 55 Division TAOR recently received packs of Delmege Baby Rusk Nutrition biscuits. On the instructions of 552 Brigade Commander Colonel W G D Wanniarachchi psc, this event was organized by the 23rd Battalion of the Gemunu Watch on 16 May 2013. To coincide with this event, the 23rd Battalion of the Gemunu Watchorganized a Medical Clinic for pregnant women in the area conducted by Dr Mythili, head of the Palali Hospital.

INTER REGIMENT PARA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP END WITH NEW HOPES TO HIGHLANDERS

The Army Inter Regiment Para Swimming Championship was held on a grand scale at The Gemunu Watch Swimming Pool at Kuruwita on 1st and 2nd September 2013, Major General LBR Mark RSP USP ndu the Colonel of the Regiment was the Chief Guest. Disabled soldiers from 11 Regiments battled for supremacy in the two-day tournament. The Gemunu Watch Team carried away the Championship Honours and The Gajaba Regiment Team were the worthy Runners-Up
