History of Corps of Engineer Service

Year 1993

♦ Col R Ekanayake was appointed as the first Regimental Commander.
♦Lt Col MDR Peiris ESR who was the Commanding Officer of 2 ESR relinquished his appointment and Lt Col KDA Perera ESR assumed duties as the Commanding Officer of 2 ESR. Lt Col MDR Peiris ESR assumed duties as the Commanding Officer of 1 ESR.

Year 1994

♦ A new play ground was built at Panagoda, 1 ESR camp premises under the direction of Lt Col MDR Peiris , the Commanding Officer of 1 ESR.
♦ The new Garrison Engineer Office , Batticaloa was established and Capt ANP Ranaweera ESR was appointed as the first Garrison Engineer - Batticaloa.
♦ Col R Ekanayake was promoted to the rank of Brigadier and appointed as the Director Engineer Services. The Headquarter Building of 2 ESR was constructed under the command of Lt Col MRW De Zoysa.
♦Garrison Engineer Office, Welioya was established and Lt DMSK Ralapanawa ESR was appointed as the first Garrison Engineer - Welioya

Year 1995

♦ The two Storied Guard Room Building, Library Building and the Cookhouse was renovated by the 1 ESR.
♦ Capt LM Kappagoda ESR and Spr Chandrapala DM died in an Aircraft crash on 13.09.1995

Year 1996

♦ The 3rd Engineer Services Regiment was established in Minneriya and Lt Col WR Wasanthakumara ESR was appointed as the first Commanding Officer of the Regiment.
♦ The 4th Engineer Services Regiment (V) was established in Panadura and Lt Col SAS Siriwardhana ESR was appointed as the first Commanding Officer of the Regiment.
♦ 200 Recruits were enlisted under the Recruit Training Course No 08 and passed out after completing the training at Engineer Services Trade School, Panagoda.
♦ Colonel P De S Daluwatte was appointed as the Brigade Commander of 113 Brigade and Commander - Southern Province.
♦ A Beat Band named "Sparkles" was created under the leadership of Lt Col DRNS Dembatapitiya ESR and under the guidance of Col P De S Daluwatte.
♦ 2/Lt WMVRD Edirisingha was added to the history of Corps of Engineer Services as the first Lady Officer who joined the Corps.
♦ Brigadier R Ekanayake USP relinquished the appointment of Director Engineer Services and retired from the Army.
♦ As the convener, Capt MR Casseem published a paper advertisement to establish the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Services Association. As a result of these basic discussions, the debut meeting of the Engineer Services Association was held with the participation of 74 members at the Regimental Headquarters of the Corps of Engineer Services premises, Panagoda. Thus, the Engineer Services Association was founded under the guidance of the Regimental Commander of the Engineer Services Regiment, Brigadier P De S Daluwatte USP and under the patronage of Brigadier MLDA Perera who was the founder of the Engineer Services Regiment.

Year 1997

♦ Brigadier P De S Daluwatte was appointed as the first Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineer Services.
♦ S/4S00379 Women Sapper Srimathi Silva who was enlisted to the 4th Engineer Services Regiment (Vol) on 10 April 1997 was added to the history as the first women sapper to join the Corps.
♦ The 5th Engineer Services Regiment (Reinforcement) was established in Kankesanthurai and Maj RAN Perera ESR was appointed as the first Officer Commanding Troops of the Regiment. A Garrison Engineer Office was established at Alimankada and Capt GDHK Wijenayake ESR was appointed as the first Garrison Engineer.
♦ A Billet Complex for other ranks, Holiday Bungalow for officers and a Stores Building was built and paving and tarring of internal roads in camp premises was carried out under the command of Lt Col LM Tennakoon ESR.
♦Coporal Somathilaka HGDS who was serving under Garrison Engineer Office - Batticaloa died in a terrorist mortar attack.

Year 1998

♦ The Engineer Services Electrical and Mechanical Workshop was established in Salava, Kosgama Army Camp.
♦ Brigadier MLDA Perera, who is the "Farther of the Regiment' passed away in this year.
♦ A Warrant Officers' & Sergeants' Mess was built at 2 Engineer Services Regiment, Anuradhapura under the directions of the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel EMM Ambanpola. Also a Library was opened for Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment.
♦ The Garrison Engineer Office - Kanagarayankulam was established and Lt KMG Bandusena ESR was appointed as the first Garrison Engineer.

Year 1999

♦ The organization of Engineer Services Regiment was expanded and approved as a Corps.

Year 2000

♦ The Corps of Engineer Services celebrated its 50th Anniversary magnificently at the Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda.
♦ The Garrison Engineer Office in Kankesanthurai was established and Lt MVPS Mudugama CES was appointed as the first Garrison Engineer.

Year 2001

♦ The War Heroes Monument, raised at the Regimental Headquarters of Corps of Engineer Services to commemorate KIA and MIA Officers, Other Ranks and Civilian employees of the Corps was ceremonially declared open by Brigadier MRW De Zoysa, the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineer Services.
♦ Capt MSD Perera CES was the first Officer of CES who followed the PT Course - I in Bangladesh in this year.

Year 2002

♦ The 4 Storied Building constructed by the Corps of Engineer Services at the Army Headquarters was declared open by Lt Gen MLP Balagalla VSV, USP, ndc, IG S/750396 L/Cpl Sisira Kumara AA of Corps of Engineer Services, who participated in the Korean Taekwondo Championship, representing the Sri lanka Army Taekwondo Association won a Bronze Medal for the 3rd place. He also received the certificate of Black belt Grade I awarded by the World Taekwondo Headquarters.
♦ The Engineer Services Trade School was relocated at Thalawa, Galayaya, Anuradhapura in a land taken over by the Army from the Mahaweli Authority.
