Under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding of the 54 Infantry Division, Major General A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc, the 542 Infantry Brigade conducted a school supplies and clothing donation programme on 09 January 2026 for students from five disaster-affected schools in the Mannar District.
During the programme, school stationery, school uniforms and other essential clothing items were distributed among students, teachers and parents. In addition, essential administrative items required for school use were donated to the respective school principals. The programme was conducted in two phases at MN/Thampanai Kulam Tamil School and MN/Ilandamotei Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, benefiting students from five selected schools in the area.
The event was graced by the General Officer Commanding of the 54 Infantry Division, Major General A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc, as the Chief Guest, with the participation of the Commander of the 542 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier ARWC Asurasinghe RWP RSP USP, along with other senior officers.
At the request of the GOC 54 Infantry Division, the donation programme was generously sponsored by Maliyadeva Girls’ College, Kurunegala, under the guidance of the Principal, Mrs Nirodha Abeywickrama, with the support of its teachers and students. The programme was organized by the 4th Battalion, Gajaba Regiment and the 8th Battalion, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, with overall coordination carried out by the Civil Affairs Officer of the 542 Infantry Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel W A N D Jayasundara.
