Demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting the education and well-being of children while fostering harmony between the North and South, the General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division, Major General A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc, directed the 542 Infantry Brigade to organize a school supplies donation programme in celebration of World Children’s Day on 16 October 2025.
The event was organized in collaboration with Wariyapola Sumangala Central College, whose dedicated team of teachers and prefects generously contributed essential school supplies for the students of MN/Madhu Road Sinhala School and MN/St. Lourdes Maha Vidyalaya in Mannar. These donations serve as a meaningful gesture of compassion and support, helping to enhance the educational experience of children in the region.
Students and staff of MN/St. Lourdes Maha Vidyalaya warmly welcomed the visiting team, creating a heartfelt atmosphere of friendship, unity, and mutual respect among all participants.
The programme was meticulously planned and executed by the 4th Battalion, Gajaba Regiment (4 GR), under the supervision of Brigadier A R W C Asurasingha RWP RSP USP, Commander 542 Infantry Brigade, with the coordination of Lieutenant Colonel W A N D Jayasundara VIR, Civil Affairs Officer of the Brigade.
