The 59 Infantry Division, under the guidance of Major General D R N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP, General Officer Commanding of the Division, successfully organized a Civil Football Tournament in the Mullaitivu District to strengthen civil–military relations and promote youth engagement in sports.
A total of 22 football teams participated in the competition, with Mullaittivu Alaiosai Sports Club and Uduppukulam Uthayam Sports Club advancing to the grand finale, held on 10 September 2025 at the Iranapalai Ground, Puthukuduiruppu.
The final match was graced by Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc Commander Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni) and Mr. A. Umamaheshwaran, District Secretary of Mullaitivu, who attended as Chief Guests. Senior officers of the Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni), Brigade Commanders, Battalion Commanding Officers, and several distinguished civil dignitaries were also present.
Alaiosai Sports Club emerged as champions, while Uthayam Sports Club secured the runners-up position. The top three teams were awarded trophies, certificates, gift packs, and cash prizes of Rs. 100,000, Rs. 50,000, and Rs. 25,000 respectively. Special individual awards were also presented to recognize outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
The event underscored the Army’s continued commitment to fostering reconciliation, strengthening community ties, and empowering the youth through constructive sporting initiatives.
