59 INFANTRY DIVISION CONDUCTED A SIGITI NEW YEAR FESTIVAL

Under the leadership and guidance of the General Officer Commanding 59 Infantry Division, Major General D R N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP, a vibrant "Sigithi New Year Festival" was successfully organized for school childrens in the Mullaitivu and Kokilai areas on 05 April 2025, from 0830 hrs to 1400 hrs, at the Green Jacket Holiday Resort, Alampil, within the premises of the 10th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment. The event, held in celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, aimed to foster cultural harmony, happiness, and community engagement among the younger generation through a series of traditional games, entertainment activities, and refreshments, creating a joyful and memorable experience for all participants.

The Commander Security Forces (Wanni) Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while the General Officer Commanding 59 Infantry Division Major General D R N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP, Deputy General Officer Commanding Brigadier K H N P Hennadige RWP RSP psc, Brigade Commanders, senior officers, and other ranks also took part in the festivities. In addition, the Senior Superintendent of Police for Mullaitivu District, several government officials, attended the celebration. The event was generously sponsored by Manusath Derana and Maliban Biscuits (Pvt) Ltd, showcasing the spirit of public-private partnership in supporting civil-military initiatives and community development in the Northern Province.
