CHRISTMAS CAROLS MANNAR - 2024

The Christmas carols Mannar 2024 organized by 54 Infantry Division in order to promote the religious harmony and civil military reconciliation among the people of Mannar district, where the majority of Christians live, and to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, was held at the “St. Sebastian’s Cathedral”, Mannar on last Thursday (December 19) evening.

The Christmas carols was organized under the patronage of the General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division Major General R P A R P Rajapakse RSP with all the assistance of under command Brigades, Battalions and finally synchronized to achieve success with the guidance of the Chief Celebrant, Most Rev. Dr. Fidelis Lionel Emmanuel Fernando - Bishop of Mannar Diocese. Commander Security Forces (Wanni) Major General J P C Peiris RWP RSP ndc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The event, conducted in all three major languages jointly and sung odes to the 'Prince of the Peace', Jesus Christ and heralded his birth while praying for world peace and prosperity.

The carols that reverberated adorned the festive atmosphere, the participation of the Army Choir and additionally joined St. Xavier's Girls' College - Mannar, Adampan M M V, Murukkan Central Collage and the Choir team of Our Lady of Victory Church, graced the occasion and contributed to carry Jesus' message of peace to the people.

The event was concluded with a delightful display of fireworks and refreshments for all the participants. The clergy representing all religions of the Mannar District, the government officials including the District Secretary Mannar and members of the government institutions and over 3500 people of the area witness the carols.

Further the Area Commander North Central Naval Base ,Senior Police Officers, General Officer Commanding 21 Infantry Division, Senior Officers of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), 54 Infantry Division and Brigade Commanders of 541, 542, 543 Infantry Brigades and the senior officers also joined to witness the Christmas Carols.
