Continuing its efforts to uplift the livelihoods and welfare of underprivileged communities in the Mannar District, the Sri Lanka Army conducted a relief distribution programme on 28 December 2025 for families affected by cyclonic rainfall.
The programme was carried out under the guidance of Major General A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division, and under the direct supervision of the Commander, 541 Infantry Brigade. The initiative provided much-needed assistance to 40 families from Thethawadi Village, GN Division MN 03, Pali Aru, who were severely impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The event was held at the 541 Infantry Brigade Lecture Hall under the close supervision of the Commanding Officer, 5 (V) Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel J P U Kumara USP. Relief items, including essential clothing and equipment, were distributed to the affected families with the sponsorship of the Lanka Fundamental Rights Organization.
The ceremony was graced by Brigadier I P Jayasinghe RWP, Commander 541 Infantry Brigade, as the Chief Guest, along with Mr. Mohan Raj, North Provincial Director General of the Lanka Fundamental Rights Organization, Dr. E M B Daniel, and other officials of the organization.
