Under the guidance and direction of the Commander, Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, a special Dhamma sermon was conducted on 04 November 2025 at the Headquarters premises to mark the Ill Pura Pasaloswaka Poya Day.
A total of 54 senior/ junior officers, 205 other ranks, and civil staff serving at the headquarters participated in the programme.
Addressing contemporary social challenges, the sermon focused on issues such as drug abuse, internet addiction, and online gaming, which have increasingly affected the mental and moral well-being of youth. The primary objective of the initiative was to promote mental stability and moral discipline among Army personnel and civil staff, inspiring them to lead meaningful and disciplined lives in accordance with Buddhist teachings.
The sermon further highlighted the Army’s enduring role in safeguarding the nation’s religious and cultural heritage. Emphasis was placed on the importance of adhering to the Buddha’s teachings as a means of countering corruption, violence, narcotics, underworld activities, and other harmful influences. Practical illustrations were provided on how individuals can protect themselves, their families, the Army, and the nation through righteous conduct.
The gathering also offered merit to fallen War Heroes, invoked blessings for the speedy recovery of disabled War Heroes, and extended wishes for long life and good health to all serving members and their families.
The Dhamma sermon, titled "Kalana Sumaduru", was delivered by Kalabhushana, Desha Keerthi, Desha Shakthi, Gaurav Shasthravedi, Shastrapathi, Venerable Kirigalwewe Wimalasara Thero, focusing on the theme of “Mental Well-being and Building a Good Life”.
This spiritual programme aimed to strengthen moral values, promote mindfulness, and encourage all participants to embrace Buddhist principles in their daily lives for the betterment of the Army and the nation.
