GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING 56 INFANTRY DIVISION UNDERTAKES MAIDEN VISIT TO 563 INFANTRY BRIGADE

Major General S A U A Solangaarachchi RSP ndc psc, the newly-appointed General Officer Commanding of the 56 Infantry Division, conducted his maiden official visit to the 563 Infantry Brigade and its under-command battalions the 7 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and the 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch on 18 and 19 November 2025. The visit aimed to strengthen morale, assess operational readiness, and enhance coordination across all levels of command.

During the visit, the GOC inspected detachments under the respective battalions and reviewed ongoing operational responsibilities. He held direct and cordial interactions with soldiers, gaining first-hand insight into their ground realities, challenges, and day-to-day tasks. At each location, senior officers, officers, SNCOs, and NCOs gathered to honour his visit and demonstrate the Brigade’s state of preparedness.

Upon his arrival at the 563 Infantry Brigade Headquarters, Major General Solangaarachchi was warmly welcomed by Brigadier P A Nandathilaka RSP USP, Commander 563 Infantry Brigade. Addressing the troops, he emphasized the importance of unwavering vigilance, exemplary discipline, and total dedication to duty. He further highlighted personal responsibility, accountability, and sound financial management as essential qualities for all ranks. The GOC also cautioned against harmful behaviours such as drug use, gambling, and excessive online gaming which could erode discipline and hinder operational effectiveness.

Additionally, the GOC provided strategic guidance on upcoming operational priorities and encouraged all ranks to uphold the highest standards of military professionalism. His inaugural visit reaffirmed the Division’s strong commitment to troop welfare, discipline, and mission readiness, while strengthening morale and laying a firm foundation for continued operational success.
