CONDUCTING DENGUE CONTROL PROGRAMMES WITHIN THE 563 INFANTRY BRIGADE AOR

In support of the national dengue prevention campaign “A Quiet City A Healthy Life”, the 563 Infantry Brigade carried out a series of dengue control operations within its Area of Responsibility (AOR), in coordination with the Directors of Health Services and relevant government institutions. The programme was implemented in accordance with directives issued by the Commander of the Army and the Commander of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), ensuring close inter-agency cooperation.

The operations were conducted from 07 to 09 January 2026 under the overall supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 56 Infantry Division. Troops of the 563 Infantry Brigade, reinforced by personnel from the 7th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and the 8th Gamunu Watch, were deployed across several locations in the area to carry out systematic environmental sanitation activities. These efforts focused on the removal of stagnant water at Mamaduwa Hospital and Bogaswewa Hospital, the cleaning of school premises at Omanthai, and the clearing of roadside areas to minimize potential mosquito breeding sites.

The dengue prevention activities were carried out under the leadership of the Commander, 563 Infantry Brigade, Colonel W. Dassanayaka RSP. A total of 06 officers and 30 other ranks participated under the supervision of respective battalion commanders, ensuring disciplined execution and effective coordination throughout the operation.

The programme was further strengthened by the active participation of officials from the Health Services Department, other government agencies, local civilians, and school students. This collective initiative enhanced community awareness on dengue prevention while reinforcing civil–military cooperation and the shared responsibility of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
